Climate-Smart Agriculture

Farming for the Future: Resilient and Sustainable Solutions

In response to climate challenges, SCR Kenya empowers farmers with knowledge and tools to practice climate-smart agriculture, ensuring food security while protecting ecosystems.

Our Climate-Smart Agriculture programs include:

  • Training farmers in conservation agriculture and use of drought-resistant crops like finger millet and green grams.
  • Promotion of low-water kitchen gardens for continuous household food supply.
  • Community tree planting initiatives with indigenous and fast-growing species to restore degraded lands.
  • Promotion of energy-saving technologies such as fuel-efficient cookstoves.
  • Provision of improved goat and plant breeds for food security and economic support
  • Vocational training on goat farming, poultry farming and vegetable farming.

Challenges We Address

Climate risks affecting communities include:

  • Erratic rainfall patterns and prolonged droughts reducing food production.
  • Soil erosion and environmental degradation worsening food insecurity.
  • Dependence on traditional unsustainable farming methods.

Our Solutions
  • Training in climate-smart agriculture and sustainable land management.
  • Distribution of drought-tolerant seeds and seedlings.
  • Establishment of community nurseries and tree planting drives.
  • Provision of improved goats, cockerels.
  • Introduction of high yielding animals and crops.
